We must save our beaches but i wish the government would play a bigger role by giving funds for buildings and infrastructures to be relocated! They are too busy looking to make another buck instead of helping communities.

Beach sand mining is now spreading to east coast of India in a bigway. It appears that the policies are so tuned to eliminate fishing communities from the coasts.

In the Philippines, beach mining is so ramphant especially in the 3 municipalities of the Province of Cagayan namaly: Gonzaga, Buguey, and Aparri. our Philippine law prohibits mining within 200meters from the mean low tide level along the beach but our government officials giving permits to the Chinese and Taiwanese Mining Companies have not been strictly implementing the law hence many residents are fighting against the illegal mining operations in their areas. It is prohibited to mine within the 1kilometer distence from public and private works and structures but this is not also being implemented strictly in the Philippines. We therefore continue to fight against all illegal mining operations specially along our beaches to do away with the effect of global rising sea level.

Australia's Stradbroke Island is the second largest sand island in the world, in the same chain as the largest, World Heritage listed Fraser Island. I am signing this petition because like so many beautiful coastal places Stradbroke is being destroyed by mining. For more information go to www.change org and look for Petition to the Emsens family
