Beach resort hit by seven foot wave as mini tsunami strikes the Netherlands

Beachgoers were caught off guard after being hit by the seven foot tidal wave in Zandvoort, a coastal resort in the Dutch province of North Holland.

According to local media, the phenomenon is so rare that it is the first time it has been so well filmed and documented.

No one was injured in Monday’s tsunami although there was some damage.

The unique phenomenon is called a meteotsunami or meteorological tsunami according to Jacco Kromkamp of the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ)…
